Today was our first full day in Helsinki! Our first stop was Marsky a high school for student-athletes. Many students there train for the Olympics or are at very competitive levels in their sport. We saw their training facilities and learned that students take school and sport very seriously due to the honor and prestige of getting in. Then we went to the Olympic stadium, looked at the museum where we learned about Finland’s Olympic history, and went to the top of the tower to see the actual stadium and city. It was a beautiful view! Afterwards we had free time where we went to the markets, explored the city, took some pictures, and went to a few cute shops along the way. Then we all had our welcome dinner which consisted of three courses. The first was an artichoke salad, then veal and asparagus, then finally an olive oil cake with poached plumes and icecream. The dessert was my favorite part. We ended the night with a walk and a sauna!
